How to Implement AI?

How AI Will Change Your Business Roles: A 12-18 Month Outlook

Wondering how AI might shake up your team’s jobs? Not sure where to start with AI in your business? Let’s break it down into practical steps. We’ll use an insurance brokerage as an example.

1. Identify Key Roles

First, list out all the important roles in your company. Focus on the ones that a) keep your business running and b) especially those with lots of repetitive or data-heavy tasks.

For an insurance brokerage, think Insurance Agent, Claims Processor, Underwriter, and Customer Service Rep.

2. Break Down Daily Tasks

Now, look at what each role does day-to-day. Zero in on repetitive, time-consuming, or data-heavy tasks. This is where AI can make a big difference.

In our insurance example, Insurance Agents might spend ages gathering client info and updating records. Claims Processors could be drowning in paperwork, while Customer Service Reps handle loads of basic questions.

3. Find AI Tools That Fit

Look for AI tools that match your industry and can tackle the tasks you’ve identified. Consider options for data analysis, customer service, and workflow management.

For insurance, you might look at:

  • Claims Processing: Try Clara Analytics or Shift Technology to speed things up.
  • Customer Inquiries: Use chatbots like ChatGPT, Intercom, or Drift for quick responses.
  • Client Information: CRMs with AI like Salesforce Einstein or HubSpot can help agents gather and analyse data faster.

4. Picture the Future

Think about how these roles might change in the next 12-18 months with AI. How will tasks and responsibilities shift? How can AI free up your team for more strategic work?

In our insurance example, Claims Processors could focus on complex claims that need human judgement, while AI handles the routine stuff. Insurance Agents might use AI to crunch client data, giving them more time for relationship building.

5. Plan Your Move

Map out how you’ll bring AI into these roles. Include training plans and a timeline for rollout. Start small with pilot programs, then scale up based on what works.

For the insurance brokerage, you might introduce an AI claims tool over three months. Train your team on how to use it. Do the same with a chatbot for customer queries.

6. Talk to Your Team

Be upfront about how AI will change their jobs. Address worries and highlight the benefits. Clear communication is key to getting everyone on board.

Hold a team meeting. Show how AI will cut down on boring tasks and free them up for more interesting work. Make it clear that AI is there to help, not replace them.

7. Get Started and Keep Improving

Start using AI tools bit by bit and watch what happens. Regularly check in on the changes and tweak as needed. Get feedback from your team and track how it’s affecting your business.

In our insurance example, you might start with AI for some claims processing. See how it goes, get feedback, and fine-tune before rolling it out fully. Do the same with the chatbot for customer queries.
