Step 1: Prime the AI as Your Strategic Partner
Instead of asking AI to “write a UVP” (which produces generic results), I positioned it as an interviewer. This transforms AI from a writing tool into a strategic thinking partner.
My Opening Prompt:
“I want you to ask me a series of very simple questions about my business and help me formulate a solution-focused unique value proposition. Please ask me 5-8 foundational questions to understand my business better.”
Why This Works: By having AI ask questions, you’re forced to articulate your value in your own words—the authentic foundation for a compelling UVP.
Step 2: Answer Questions Using Voice Dictation
The AI responded with targeted questions about:
- My ideal customer
- The problems I solve
- My unique approach

Pro Tip: Use voice dictation on the ChatGPT mobile app. Speaking your answers creates a more natural, conversational flow and captures nuances you might miss when typing.
Step 3: Request Targeted Variations
Once AI generated my initial UVP, I needed versions for different platforms. Each marketing channel has different character limits and contexts.
My Refinement Prompt:
“Create shorter variations of this UVP for different marketing channels. Please provide a two-column table showing: 1) Where to use it (LinkedIn headline, website homepage, email signature, etc.) and 2) The adapted UVP for that specific use.”
Result: I received perfectly sized variations for:
- LinkedIn headline (120 characters)
- Website hero section
- Email signature
- Elevator pitch
- Social media bios
Step 4: Lock in Your Positioning Statement
To crystallise everything into a memorable format, I used a proven positioning formula.
Final Prompt:
“Create a positioning statement using this format: I help [target audience] [solve specific problem] by [unique method/approach] so they can [achieve desired outcome].”
This format works because it answers the four critical questions every potential customer has:
- Is this for me?
- Does it solve my problem?
- How is it different?
- What’s in it for me?
