The Two Adoption Gaps
Two gaps: people not using the tools you bought, and people using them while the work stays the same.
1
Licences are not adoption
Tools bought and provisioned, behaviour unchanged. Idle seats show up in a spend report, which is why this gap gets noticed.
2
Adoption is not transformation
Real tools, real skill, real usage - and the work is much as it was. This gap is easy to miss because the numbers look good.
The Licence Graveyard
Gap one has a name: paid seats nobody opens. More seats or training won't fix it. A workflow that changes around the tool will.
Both sides can show green
Usage rose and somebody built something impressive. Worth having, and not yet what you were asked to deliver.
When to use Working out which gap a stalled workflow is actually in.
